life's a beach!

I managed to get to volleyball tonight which was fantastic, because I've really missed it these past few weeks. The skills of the team have really picked up since we first started about nine months ago. We're getting most of our serves in which means we keep the flow of the game in our favour and we're using our shots more effectively, setting the ball up and taking the time to place it well in our opponent's court.

Even though we've picked up our game, it's still a lot of fun. It's nice to be able to enjoy a team sport, but not have people be overly serious doing it. Running, jumping and occasionally diving and waving your arms around for 40 minutes in a big sandpit is a great way to get your heart pumping though and I highly recommend it to anyone.

Oh...did I mention we won? Yay BeachBums!

a cup of tea

While it's not part of my well-being plan, a cup of milky tea and a chance to curl up on my couch for some me time is a nice way to wind down. Tuesdays are pretty hectic here, with a five am start for me, so it has to be an early night too.

alien invasions...

Today the little people and I went off to the park for a bit of sunshine and running around. Bean was a particularly good sport, considering he's a high schooler now and joined the rest of us in our shenanigans.

While this wasn't officially exercise time for me, it was still getting out and getting active time and engaging all of us in a bit of fun. I think that part of the point of exercise for mental well-being is to be able to let go of all of the serious stuff and be in the moment.

Once I was home again, later the same night I went through my subjects on LMS and made some notes about activities and up-coming assessments in my BRD, which I have to admit made me feel a lot more in control of what I was up to.

I also decided to make life a little easier for myself by making a few reference cards for things. It also gave me a chance to flex my crafty muscles, which I have to do at least once a day or I don't feel right. First was a little list of the times and places on campus where I can access computers. For now I don't have my own laptop to use at Uni, so I'm having to make use of resources available to me. Having a bit of foreknowledge of when and where I can go to use computers makes me feel like I'm not confined to the library. Second was a timetable of lectures and tutorials. I do already have one of these and I've also got my electronic version in my Google calender, but this one fits into my BRD and encourages me to use it. I don't think you can have too many reminders of where and when you need to be!

well hello there!

This is my little blog to record my well-being plan progress, but it might also be a bit of a record of my journey to become a teacher.

First steps to organisation? Create this blog, start using my Google calendar, properly utilise my big red diary (BRD) and make sure I'm keeping track of things on the Uni Learning Management System (LMS).

Getting out to start running again, for my physical activity section is going to be the tricky part. I need to get over my fears of going out solo early in the morning. Hopefully I can start this week, but I may need to work up to it. Maybe it will be a case of beach volleyball and family walks for a little while first...I'll keep you posted.
